Apple Cake

1 3/4 cups of sugar

2 cups of flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 cup Crisco vegetable oil

3 eggs

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

1 teaspoon vanilla

5 cups sliced and peeled apples (I prefer Granny Smith’s)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Peel and slice apples. Mix together sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon and baking soda.  Next add Crisco oil, eggs, vanilla, applies and walnuts.

Pour mixture into greased 9 x 13 glass cake pan.  The mixture looks dry but it is okay. Bake 50 minutes to 1 hour at 350 degrees. Let cake cool, then cover lightly with powdered sugar.
